At The Message Hub we believe we on journey to become a more environmentally and socially responsible company.

Our aim is to provide communications services that tread lightly on the earth and help our clients to do the same. This is based upon a strong personal commitment to the ideas and philosophy of sustainable development. As a team we operate collectively in our decision making about the way we work and what is important to us. For us this means:

Being virtual

As a business we operate virtually, from our respective home offices, or from the offices of our clients. We believe this lowers our overall carbon footprint by reducing individual travel to a premises. We are looking at other ways our virtual enterprise can reduce our carbon emissions. For example, to further reduce our carbon footprint our Reading home office is powered with electricity from Ecotricity (www.ecotricity.co.uk) and has a solar hot water system. In Swansea, Simon operates from a self built eco home which features high levels of insulation, solar panels, air source heating and a wood burning stove.

As a business one of our biggest energy demands is our use of IT.  As part of addressing this impact we use Ecological Hosting to provide our website and email services (http://www.ecologicalhosting.com/)

Choosing public transport and low carbon travel

As a business we aim to operate a strict travel hierarchy. If we can walk or cycle we will. If not then we will use the bus and/or train. Only if none of these options are available will we use private cars or fly. We’ve not got this right yet - we are aware that we still have a carbon impact through our travel - but we’re working on it.

Managing waste

At The Message Hub we recycle the paper, plastics, printer cartridges and any glass used in the course of our working day. We strive to minimise our consumption of resources, print on both sides and use recycled paper.

Working with clients who share our commitment

It is important to us that we work with clients who share our commitment and aspirations and who themselves take seriously the concepts of sustainability and social justice.

Contributing to our community

We think that being an active member of our community is important.  Within The Message Hub we have actively contributed to community groups.  Between us we're volunteering as school governors, actively supporting and promoting the needs of deaf children in Berkshire, and helping a local nature and community park through regular fundraising and volunteering.

 Ensuring work-life balance

At The Message Hub we love communications but we also love our families. Lives today are busy and complicated. We aim to create the right balance so we can enjoy time with our families, have time and space to think and pursue our own personal ambitions, as well as delivering powerful communications for our clients. We believe this balance enables us to bring fresh eyes to our clients communications challenges.
